About Jane

A little about me

I'm a warm, experienced counsellor based in Rangiora, North Canterbury — here to support children, young people, adults, and families on their journey toward wellbeing.

Jane, counsellor at Room to Reflect

My background

From the UK to North Canterbury

Kia ora, I'm Jane. Originally born in the UK, I moved to New Zealand in 2003 with my family in search of a slower, more family-focused life. North Canterbury quickly became home — with its beaches, rivers, forests, and mountains, I'm never far from the natural spaces that help me recharge and find calm.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent many years working with children and families in educational and community settings. Those experiences shaped my deep belief that every person — regardless of age — deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported.

I established Room to Reflect in 2022 to offer a genuinely warm, neuro-affirming counselling service to the North Canterbury community. It's a privilege to walk alongside people during some of life's most challenging moments.

My counselling philosophy

I believe that healing happens in relationship. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and deeply respectful of each person's unique story. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model — instead, I draw on a range of evidence-based modalities to tailor each session to what you actually need.

How I work

Warm & non-judgmental

You'll always feel safe to share what's really going on — without fear of being judged or dismissed.

Neuro-affirming

I celebrate neurodiversity and adapt my practice to honour the way each person's brain works.

Child & family centred

I work with the whole system — not just the individual — because families heal together.

Strengths-based

We'll build on what's already working for you, not just focus on what's hard.
